Scripture

glowing book titled Holy Bible

Various books, scrolls, and other spiritual and historical writings considered sacred to many different cultures are included in this deep dive. The Holy Bible went through centuries of recognition before groups considered which collection to use for their religious purposes. Hebrew scripture was passed down orally before being written in the first five books called the Torah. Moses was told what to write while on Mount Sinai by God's Set Apart Spirit (the Ruach haKodesh) and was likely recognized as a holy collection around 400 BC¹ (before Christ or BCE, before common era). Writings by the Prophets were canonized around 200 BC and the remaining pre-Messiah writings around 100 to 90 BC. These three sections are what Hebrew people call the Tanakh and Christians would later call the Old Testament.
